Avaliação econômica de projetos de sistemas agroflorestais PFB - Pesquisa Florestal Brasileira
Cosenza, Diogo Nepomuceno; Oliveira Neto, Silvio Nolasco de; Jacovine, Laércio Antônio Gonçalves; Rodrigues, Caroline Ribeiro; Rode, Rafael; Soares, Vicente Paulo; Leite, Helio Garcia.

Tropical and Subtropical Maize in Asia: Production Systems, Constraints, and Research Priorities AgEcon
Gerpacio, Roberta V.; Pingali, Prabhu L..
This book examines future technological and policy prospects for the sustainable intensification of rainfed upland maize production in Asia, and derives R&D priorities for specific maize production environments and markets. Village-level and farmer-group surveys were conducted to characterize upland maize production environments and systems in China, India, Indonesia, Nepal, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. Survey findings, particularly farmer-identified constraints to maize production, complemented with other relevant data, were used in country-level, R&D priority-setting workshops. High on the list of farmer constraints was drought, estimated to affect three production environments that are home to about 48 million rural poor and produce...

Truths and governance for adaptive management Ecology and Society
Loftin, M. Kent; SynInt Inc.; CAMNet; kloftin@synint.com.
Managing large-scale water resources and ecosystem projects is a never ending job, and success should be measured in terms of achieving desired project performance and not just meeting prescriptive requirements of planning and constructing a project simply on time and within budget. Success is more than studying, planning, designing, or operating projects. It is developing the right plan, getting it implemented, and seeing that it is operated and performs properly. Success requires all of these, and failing any of these results in wasted resources and potential for doing great harm. Adaptive management can help make success possible by providing a means for solving the most complex problems, answering unanswered questions, and, in general, reducing...
